KausalFlow

Terms & Conditions

Last updated on 1 October 2026.

These terms apply to kausalflow.com and to the services KausalFlow runs under it, such as homeostat.kausalflow.com with its documentation, live plants and weekly benchmark (together, “the sites”). By using the sites, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

1. Who we are

KausalFlow (“we”, “us”) builds open tools for research. You can reach us at [email protected].

2. Using the sites

The sites are free to use. When you use them, please:

  • use them lawfully, and in a way that does not harm the sites or other people;
  • keep to the limits the sites publish, such as the number of requests, registrations and submissions;
  • not try to reach what is not public: the hidden values and events of the live plants, a benchmark’s lab results before they are released, other users’ tokens, or the administration pages.

We may block access for anyone who does not keep to these terms.

3. Open-source software

Our software is published under its own open-source licence; Homeostat, for example, is released under the Apache License 2.0. That licence governs your use of the code, and nothing in these terms limits the rights it gives you.

4. Content and data

The text and design of the sites belong to KausalFlow unless stated otherwise.

You may use the data the sites publish, such as the live plants’ sensor data and released lab results, for research, teaching and benchmarking, including in publications. Please cite the source, for example “Homeostat Live, KausalFlow” with a link to the site.

The live plants are simulated. Their data are not measurements of a real plant: do not use them for decisions about real equipment, safety or health.

5. The Homeostat Live benchmark

  • Your user. You register with a user id of your choice. It is public: it appears with your scores on the leaderboard and in comparisons. You receive a token once; keep it secret, because anyone who has it can submit in your name. You are responsible for the submissions made with your token.
  • Review. New users are reviewed before they appear on the leaderboard. We may approve, reject or remove a user, and leave out or remove scores, for example for an offensive or misleading user id, for submissions that break the rules, or for misuse of the sites.
  • Rules. A prediction for a sample may use only the data available at the time the sample was taken: the sensor data up to then, and the lab results already released. Each user submits one model. Models built with the help of AI are welcome.
  • Scores. Submissions are scored when a benchmark freezes, with the published metrics. If we find a mistake in the scoring, we may correct it and score again; we will say so on the site.

6. Privacy

We keep as little as we can, and we never sell data or use it for advertising.

  • kausalflow.com sets no cookies and uses no analytics, and it loads no scripts or fonts from other services. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may keep logs of visits, including addresses, under GitHub’s privacy statement.
  • homeostat.kausalflow.com sets no cookies for visitors and uses no analytics. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes requests, including addresses, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • The benchmark keeps your user id, a hash of your token (never the token itself), when you registered, your review status, your submissions with their notes and times, and your scores. It asks for no name and no email address. To limit registrations, it keeps a keyed hash of your address and the day, from which the address cannot be recovered, and deletes it after two days. The homeostat_live command keeps your token on your own computer.
  • Removal. Write to us to have your user and its submissions removed. We may ask you to show that the user is yours.

7. No warranty

The sites, the software and the data are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. They may contain errors, and we may change, interrupt or stop any of them at any time, including a benchmark.

8. Liability

As far as the law allows, KausalFlow is not liable for any damage that results from using the sites, the software or the data, or from being unable to use them.

9. Other services

The sites link to services we do not run, such as GitHub, PyPI and the projects’ own pages. Their own terms apply there.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the last change; when it matters, we will also say so on the sites. If you keep using the sites after a change, you agree to the new terms.

11. Contact

Questions about these terms, or requests about your data: [email protected].
